The 123rd Stated Meeting of the Nashville Presbytery (NP) was convened by Moderator RE Mike Mastroberti on August 12, 2025, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville. In attendance were 62 teaching elders and 20 ruling elders for a total of 82 members and commissioners as well as many visitors. It was a time of rich fellowship and worship as the Presbytery gathered to conduct the business of the Church. Here are some highlights from the meeting.
Morning Worship
The Reverend Ryan Anderson called the Presbytery to worship at 9:00 a.m. wherein Mr. Samuel Metzger and Mr. Sloan Yarborough led the Presbytery in worshipful singing to the Lord. The Reverend Kevin Teasley gave a sermon on the Gospel of Mark’s account of the Transfiguration (Mark 9:2-13). Rev. Anderson administered the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and Rev. Teasley dismissed the body with a benediction.
Converge Deaf Catalyst Team
Jeff Wolfe, who serves with the Converge Deaf Catalyst Team, gave a compelling presentation on the great need for Gospel outreach among the 98% of the deaf community who do not know Jesus. He called NP members and churches to consider giving to and serving alongside his family’s efforts in our area.
Facilitating Committee and Stated Clerk’s Reports
Upon recommendation from the Facilitating Committee, the Presbytery unanimously elected TE Drew Abercrombie to serve the duration of RE Buz Graham’s term as NP Recording Clerk. The Presbytery also adopted a recommendation from the Facilitating Committee to approve on first reading an amendment to the NP Standing Rules to incorporate the Strategic Communication Commission as a permanent commission of the NP. The Presbytery will vote on a second reading at the 124th NP Stated Meeting in November.
Stated Clerk TE Ryan Hudson began his report by encouraging the commissioners in the Lord’s faithfulness to the Nashville Presbytery. Rev. Hudson reported that the 52nd General Assembly of the PCA gave initial approval to thirteen amendments to the Book of Church Order and has sent them to the Presbyteries for advice and consent. He announced that the NP will vote on these amendments at its 124th Stated Meeting in November of this year. You may track the progress of these amendments across all Presbyteries by following this link. Upon Rev. Hudson’s recommendation, the Presbytery passed a motion to form a committee to propose responses to the 2025 Review of Presbytery Records (RPR) report. These proposed responses to RPR will be presented to the 124th NP Stated Meeting for approval. Finally, Rev. Hudson gave operational updates including improvements to our communication channels, document storage, and website.
Committee to Review Recent Actions of the Shepherding Committee
The Ad Interim Committee to Review Recent Actions of the Shepherding Committee gave a final report, recommending that the Presbytery establish an ad-hoc committee to review the Standing Rules regarding the reception and process of allegations and judicial cases. The Presbytery adopted this recommendation, appointing TE Matt Bradley, TE Kevin Twit, TE Randy Lovelace, TE Charles McGowan, TE Brian Phillips, and RE Bryce Sullivan to serve on the committee.
